Prof. Usang E. Usang is Professor of Surgery and Consultant Paediatric Surgeon with the University of Calabar and University of Calabar Teaching Hospital (UCTH), Calabar. He is the current Head, Department of Surgery, University of Calabar / University of Calabar Teaching Hospital (UCTH), Calabar as well as the current Chairman, Medical and Dental Consultants’ Association of Nigeria (MDCAN), UCTH Branch. He was the immediate past Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry, a position he held for four years. His areas of interest are General Paediatric Surgery, Colorectal and Neonatal Surgery. He is involved in the training of Medical Students at the Clinical level as well as Postgraduate Medical Doctors admitted into the Residency Programme for Specialist Medical training. Currently, he is an Examiner at the Primary and Membership levels of the West African College of Surgeons (WACS) and the Parts I & II levels of the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria (MCN). He is actively involved in Research and he has to his credit several journal articles in reputable National and International Journals as well as several book chapters.

Comment on Global Surgery

Due to her success in completing two international cohort studies, global surg has become a household name in surgery in the tropics by her focus on improving surgical care and outcomes in Low- and Middle-income countries. I am glad to be part of her success story.
