
All hands are now on deck as Nigeria receives green light today, 15th October to begin recruiting eligible patients for the ChEETAh trial
The trial is aimed at comparing current routine hospital practice of wound closure with the practice of using separate sterile gloves and instruments to close wounds at the end of surgery and assessing whether the new practice can reduce surgical site infection at 30- days post-surgery
Only patients undergoing clean-contaminated, contaminated or dirty abdominal surgeries can be included in the trial. Other inclusion criteria include: patients with at least one abdominal incision that is ≥5cm, who are aged 5 years and over on the day of surgery (specific age limit is exclusive to Nigeria). However, Patients undergoing caesarean section are excluded
The trial is estimated to be primarily completed by June 2021 and fully completed by December of the same year
